What did we do on Pantelleria, Italy?

“Thysa and Wijnand, would you like to join us on Pantelleria?” We didn't need much persuasion when we were invited by American wine photographer Michael Housewright and his wife Juliet. Pantelleria is a tiny volcanic Italian island that is closer to Africa than Sicily. He was there to photograph the vineyards and people of Donnafugata winery. It was a great opportunity for us to see Michael at work, learn how he makes his creative decisions and to find out what let him to pursue a career in photography in general, but more specifically in wine photography.

At the same time we learned about wine making on an island that has no natural water sources except for rain and morning dew, about why lemon trees are protected from the wind by high walls built around them. There is a reason why this island is named Pantelleria, which translates from Arabic in 'daughter of the wind'. All in all it was an inspiring experience and we are very proud to be able to share it with you through this short documentary about Michael and his work in the wine industry. It wasn't quite drinking on the job, but close, and there were definitely many drinks at the end of the day. Enjoy and please like this video and leave a comment!
