First suspension bridge in the Spanish Mediterranean

Only 35 minutes by car from Polopos you will find the first suspension bridge in the Spanish Mediterranean in Torrenueva Costa, next to Motril. The bridge is 60 meters long and hangs 35 meters above the sea. It is located in a public park and the entrance is free.

We Thysa is afraid of heights, so we weren’t at all sure that we would cross the bridge when we got there… But look at her standing on the transparent part of the bridge’s deck. Okay, there is a reason why I took the picture from this angle, because she much prefered looking up than looking down, but she did it!

In the middle of the bridge the deck is transparent so you can look into the abyss.

Suspension bridges tend to move a bit when you cross them and this one is no exception. A sign is supposed to warn people that there is a maximum of 15 people allowed on the bridge at the same time. We only saw the sign after crossing the bridge and I believe we crossed it with more than 15… so we are not very certain that the sign is a sufficient measure. Apparently the bridge is permanently monitored by camera 24 hours a day. But it doesn’t hurt to do a quick headcount for yourself when standing in front of the bridge.
